Texting and Driving: Is it worth it?
November 19, 2013
This week is National Teens don't Text and Drive Week. Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for teens in the United States, with the risk increasing by twenty three times when texting while driving. On October 1, 2013, Florida banned texting and driving joining a majority of the other states, however there are still some things that parents and guardians can do to help their teen comply.
First, talk to your teens. Help them to understand the risk that comes with texting and driving.
Secondly, set rules. Make sure your teen knows that there are consequences if the rules are not followed.
Third and Fourth, make a family pledge and lead by example. Teens are more likely to follow your lead, so stand together as a family to not text and drive.
Fifth, educate yourself. Research the laws regarding texting and driving and the consequences that go along with it.
Be an advocate for no texting and driving. Help save the life of your teen or someone else's.
